Course Structure

Overview:

The course is divided into five modules and a detailed glossary. Each module includes a test. Participants will be awarded a Certificate in Instructional Design and Curriculum Writing upon successful completion of the tests.

  • Principles of Instructional Design Module In this module, participants will learn about elements and phases of instructional design. Furthermore, they will examine the difference between pedagogy and andragogy and how to base their design on their target group.

  • Analysis Module This module introduces the planning stage including the learning outcomes, goals, objectives and needs analysis. Participants will examine different assessment methods including observations, focus groups, analysis of data and online assessment.

  • Design and Development This comprehensive module deals with the differences between the instructional design and curriculum development and it will discuss the necessary steps that lead to the finished product. It provides examples of instructional methods such as direct and indirect instruction, interactive instruction and experiential learning. Participants will learn how to design effective testing tools and how to incorporate different strategies, tests and methods into their design.

  • Implementation Module This module describes the planning and delivery phases of the instructional design. Participants will learn to identify and deal with planning issues such as training the trainer and logistical issues involved. The module will also examine different approaches to learning styles and their possible application in the design.

  • Evaluation Module In this module, participants will learn how evaluations measure the success of the implemented program and determining a value and effectiveness of an instructional design. It will examine formative, summative and follow-up types of evaluation.
